About the speakers

Prof. Ilan Pappe is a professor of history at the College of Social Sciences and International Studies at the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom, director of the university’s European Centre for Palestine Studies, and co-director of the Exeter Centre for Ethno-Political Studies. He is also the author of the bestselling The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine (Oneworld), A History of Modern Palestine (Cambridge), The Modern Middle East (Routledge), The Israel/Palestine Question (Routledge), The Forgotten Palestinians: A History of the Palestinians in Israel (Yale), The Idea of Israel: A History of Power and Knowledge (Verso) and with Noam Chomsky, Gaza in Crisis: Reflections on Israel’s War Against the Palestinians (Penguin). He writes for, among others, the Guardian and the London Review of Books.

Mk Aida Touma-Sliman is a member of Knesset (Hadash (Democratic Front for Peace and Equality). She was born in Nazareth on July 16, 1964 and was first elected to the Knesset in 2015 and served as the chair of the Knesset committee for the Status of women and gender equality till 2022. MK Touma-Sliman is a member of the political bureau of the communist Party of Israel. Before being elected to the Knesset she was the editor of Al-Ittihad daily newspaper. She was the co-founder and general director of “Women Against Violence” – a Palestinian women’s organization that was responsible, among other things, to the creation of the first battered women’s shelters in the Palestinian community in Israel.

Journalist Mariam Barghouti is the Senior Palestine Correspondent for Mondoweiss. She earned a BA in English Language and Literature from Birzeit University, and an MSc in Sociology and Global Change from the University of Edinburgh. She worked as a journalist and reporter with a focus on the Levant, and published various sociopolitical commentaries from Palestine. She has undertaken monitoring and evaluation missions of humanitarian and development aid in Jordan, Palestine, and Lebanon for various governmental and non-governmental organizations. Her reporting and analysis have been featured in Al-Jazeera English, the New York Times, the Guardian, BBC, and Middle East Eye, amongst others.
