Establishments of Neighborhood Corners in Jalazone and Qalandya

This project ran from February 2002 to February 2005 in coordination with
AUSTCARE and funded by the
Australian Government (AusAID)
Local partner organizations are the Women's Center in Jalazone and Women's Center in Qalandya
The goal of the project was to contribute to the process of building democratic and participatory institutions in Palestine and to increase the access of women in Jalazone and Kalandia Refugee Camps to the public and productive spheres of life.
The following activities have been undertaken :
- Establishments of Neighborhood Corners
- Institutional Capacity Building Program
- Business Idea Competition
- Household Economy and Business Training
- Individualized Training of Women in Computer Skills/Training of Trainers/Employment Services
- Broad-Based Computer Skills Training and Provision of Employment Services
- Women’s Leadership Training Workshops
The Women’s Health and Awareness Program contained the following components:
- Group Counseling Workshops
- Physical Fitness Program
- Health and the Body Workshops
- Social Topics Workshops
- Public Speaking Workshops
Impact :
There was an increase in the number of women in public positions (PA, UNRWA, local committees). 32% of the women of the total camp population are accessing infrastructure targeting women. 22% of the women of the total camp population are members of women’s centre. Additionally there was an increase in the number of camp women in employment:
40% of the women trained initiate and manage economic projects.
60% of the women trained are employed for computer/administration skills.
