Developing 7 youth clubs in Jerusalem and Gaza

This program falls under the Partnership Grants Project which is funded by The World Bank and others in cooperation with the Welfare Association, Ma’an and others.
The program was established in Jerusalem and Gaza in 2003-2004. The goal of this program was to improve the capacity of local youth clubs. Another aim was to deliver quality services to their constituencies and to empower Jerusalem and Gaza youth. We have strived to enable them to recognize opportunities and deal with existing threats so as to positively and effectively contribute to improving and shaping their communities.

The following activities were organized or implemented :

  • Training on roles, responsibilities and functions
  • Project management training
  • Production and publication of 2 manuals on roles, responsibilities and functions of boards of directors, and about project and program management.
  • Provision of strategic planning training, provision of strategic planning documents for various clubs
  • Provision of 15 brochures (English/Arabic) about the clubs
  • Provision of CD database for each club
  • Provision of a database manual for the clubs
  • Provision of training on the manuals
  • Sustainability workshop in Jerusalem and Gaza

The provision of the database was a good tool for the youth clubs to start organizing themselves. It was the first time they had such a professional tool at their disposition. The brochures helped to promote the clubs and increase membership of these clubs. All the training were tools to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the clubs on a financial and organizational level.

We learned that when given a chance, the eagerness of youth to participate in community life is very significant.
